Summary:
It was only when the realisation came that a way of life taken for granted was fast disappearing, that the author considered what could be done to preserve and document the past of his village and its harbours. He became convinced that a book was the only satisfactory means to fulfil what he preceived to be a pressing requirement, and perhaps encourage others to further explore its past. This book is primarily about its four harbours, vital to the survival of this comminuty though the centuries, and in particular, the story of the dedication and commitment of the Whitehills Harbour Commissioners, who are all volunteers. Whitehills Harbour is a Trust Harbour, owned by the community and maintained on their behalf by the Harbour Commissioners and its Harbourmaster.
