Summary:
Ken Loach directs this British drama which follows the rising tensions in a former mining community in the North East of England when the village becomes home to a group of Syrian refugees. Yara (Ebla Mari), a young aspiring photographer, attempts to integrate the settling refugees with the locals by introducing herself to TJ Ballantyne (Dave Turner), the landlord of The Old Oak pub, itself on the brink of closure as the once thriving village begins to succumb to 30 years of economic decline. Despite his initial concerns about the refugees and the effect their needs will have on the poorer members of the community, TJ sets out to work with Yara to unite the village and restore its hope and prosperity.
