Summary:
Blitz Bazawule directs this musical adaptation of Alice Walker's Pulitzer prize-winning novel starring Fantasia Barrino and Colman Domingo. Over the course of 40 years, the film follows the life of Celie (Barrino), a poor black woman who endures years of abuse from her father and her husband Mister (Domingo). When her husband embarks on an affair with the beautiful Shug (Taraji P. Henson), an attraction is also formed between the two women, and lonely Celie finally begins to blossom. The cast also includes Danielle Brooks, Halle Bailey and Jon Batiste.
