The show focuses on patriarch Cosimo de' Medici (Richard Madden) who assumes control of the Bank of Medici following the death of his father Giovanni (Dustin Hoffman). As he tries to maintain a grip on power in Florence, flashbacks reveal Cosimo's relationship with his brother Lorenzo (Stuart Martin).
