A. Marshall Mackenzie was one of the leading authorities on church architecture in Scotland and a founder member of the Aberdeen Ecclesiological Society. In addition to executing original works, he became an authority on indigenous church styles by being responsible for restorations and additions to existing buildings including the historic church of Birnie in Moray. Craigiebuckler (Church of Scotland) is one of the earliest of his original churches.
