Videos and DVDs
Two documentaries from controversial filmmaker Nick Broomfield. In 'The Leader, His Driver and the Driver's Wife' (1991), Broomfield turns his camera on the neo-Nazi Afrikaner Resistance Movement in South Africa. Using his bumbling style, he manages to lull the subjects into portraying themselves in their true light and defuses the pompous rhetoric by refusing to take it seriously. Eugene Terre'blanche, the leader of the movement is left stunned and dazed by the attitude of Broomfield as he manages to get right under the skin of the self-proclaimed great man. In 'His Big White Self' (2006), filmed 12 years after the collapse of Apartheid, Broomfield revisits the familiar and haunted faces of those brought down and broken by democracy's rise in South Africa, finally confronting the newly-released and unrepentant Terre'blanche.
