Marleen Gorris directs this adaptation of Virginia Woolf's novel. In 1923, MP's wife Clarissa Dalloway (Vanessa Redgrave) begins to reminisce while preparing for a party at her London home. She casts her mind back to the 1890s, when she shared a close friendship with the radical Sally Seton (Lena Headey), and was forced to choose between two suitors: socialist Peter Walsh (Alan Cox) and Richard Dalloway (Robert Portal). Back in the present, Clarissa becomes involved in the case of a shell-shocked war veteran, and is shocked when Peter unexpectedly reappears in her life.
