A booklet published to accompany a special exhibition held 29 June-20 July 1985 at the Aberdeen Art Gallery celebrating Alexander MacDonald's great contribution to the wealth of the Aberdeen's art collections. The ingenious provision in his bequest that "no picture painted more than 25 years before the date of purchase shall be eligible" has provided Aberdeen Art Gallery with a permanently 'open' collecting policy ready to respond to new developments in painting and sculpture.
