Cary Grant and Ann Sheridan star in Howard Hawks' cross-dressing comedy about US Army bureaucracy surrounding the return of 'war brides' at the end of WWII. Grant plays a Captain in the French Army, Henri Rochard, who reluctantly begins one last assignment with WAC Lieutenant Catherine Gates. The antagonistic pair fall in love and decide to marry. However the only way that Rochard can return to the US is to disguise himself as a sister WAC.
