After an undercover operation goes wrong, bumbling cop and part-time actor Trey Sellars (Eddie Murphy) finds himself paired with tough detective Mitch Preston (Robert De Niro) for a reality TV show which will follow their exploits on the streets of Los Angeles. Playing up the tension between the two lawmen, TV producer Chase Renzi (Rene Russo) soon has a hit show on her hands. But their newfound fame might prove to be a hindrance when Sellars and Preston go on the trail of criminal kingpin Caesar Vargas.
