Classic slice of Americana-style comedy adventure directed by John Ford. Will Rogers (who tragically died in a plane crash between the film's completion and its release) stars as Dr John Pearly, a charming and amiable quack doctor who sells his high-proof concoction 'The Pocahontas Remedy' along the Mississippi river from his riverboat the Claremore Queen. When his nephew, Duke (John McGuire), gets into trouble with the lynch mob after being accused of killing the man who attempted to rape his girl Fleety Belle (Anne Shirley), Dr John pulls out all the stops to save him from hanging, with increasingly farcical consequences: a climactic scene shows Dr John having to enter a steamboat race to get downriver in time, and feeding his paddle-steamer bit by bit into its own furnace to get to his destination.
