1950s French drama in which a complex entanglement of romances is brought full circle in eleven vignettes in Vienna in 1900. Featuring a game master (Anton Walbrook) and a metaphorical merry-go-round, the characters followed include prostitute Leocadie (Simone Signoret) who meets a soldier named Franz (Serge Reggiani) who leaves her for Marie (Simone Simon) the housekeeper. Leocadie then meets Alfred (Daniel Gelin), who goes off with Emma (Danielle Darrieux), whose husband is having an affair with someone else...
