Metaphorical tale of desire and greed in the mountains of India. Biniya (Shreya Sharma), an eleven-year-old girl from a mountain village in northern India, finds a vibrant blue Japanese umbrella while out walking. Returning to her village, she soon realises other people, notably local shopkeeper Nandu, covet her umbrella, which is fast assuming mythical status. When the umbrella suddenly goes missing, all eyes fall on Nandu and his premises are searched, without success, by the police. Hurt and indignant, Nandu decides to order an umbrella for himself and is soon the owner of a bright red umbrella, quickly restoring his position in the community. Meanwhile Biniya decides to mount her own investigations into who the umbrella thief could be.
