The penultimate film from acclaimed Indian director Ritwik Ghatak is a study of the changes brought about in East Bengal since his childhood. Telling the story of the decline of a fishing community on the River Titas, the film traces the effects of the river's drying up and the influence of city dwellers who turn the community's land into paddy fields.
