French horror directed by Georges Franju. After his daughter Christiane (Edith Scob) is badly injured in a car accident which he caused, plastic surgeon Dr. Génessier (Pierre Brasseur) is driven mad with guilt. To atone for his actions the doctor, aided by his loyal assistant Louise (Alida Valli), kidnaps young women and takes them to his secret laboratory where he removes their faces. However, each time he attempts to graft their skin onto Christiane's face, the surgery proves unsuccessful. As Christiane's mental state deteriorates, will she allow her father's experiments to continue?
