Another mystery for Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) and Dr Watson (Nigel Bruce). However, Holmes has apparently died in an accident...and is officially dead. When a strange female villain, Andrea Spedding is discovered to be behind a series of deaths wherein the victims are driven to suicide after being bitten by poisonous spiders, Holmes finds it easier to move around undetected. But Spedding may be a true match for him - the film climaxes with the famous scene of Rathbone tied-up and gagged behind a target in a shooting gallery, with Watson aiming a loaded pistol at it.
