Michael Powell directs this drama exploring the depopulation of a remote Scottish island. As the younger generation move to the mainland in search of new opportunities, it becomes more difficult to follow the traditional way of life including fishing and crofting. Robbie (Eric Berry) wants to leave his island home while his sister Ruth (Belle Chrystall) and friend Andrew (Niall MacGinnis) wish to stay. When Robbie suggests that others join him in search of new opportunities, tragedy comes to the island.
