Raphaella Phillips is the young and beautiful wife of a diplomat 40 years her senior. When her husband has a massive stroke, leaving him bedridden and helpless, she remains faithful to him for five selfless (and loveless) years. A chance meeting with an exciting mystery man ignites long suppressed passions in her, and they embark on a torrid affair, which she reluctantly gives up out of a feeling of duty to her husband.
