Catherine Deneuve stars in this psychological horror directed by Roman Polanski. Carol (Deneuve) is left alone in the Kensington apartment she shares with her sister Helen (Yvonne Furneaux) when Helen and her married lover Michael (Ian Hendry) go away on holiday. She becomes increasingly unstable, experiencing hallucinations which have their roots in her fear of male sexuality. When two aggressive men turn up, her tortured nightmares spill into real life violence.
