As a child, Ruby Webberley née Grant, came to Moruya with her parents and brothers. Her father was one of a contingent of Scottish stonemasons recruited by Dorman Long to work in the granite quarry on the Moruya river where all the stones for the Sydney Harbour Bridge were quarried and dressed.
