Kenneth More, Diane Cilento and Cecil Parker star in this comedy adventure based on the play by J.M. Barrie. In 1905, William Crichton (More) is a butler employed by Henry, Earl of Loam (Parker) and his family. When a scandalous incident forces the family to leave London for a while, they decide to take a trip on the Earl's yacht in the South Seas. During a storm they are forced to abandon ship and are stranded on a desert island, where it quickly becomes apparent that Crichton is the only one skilled enough to ensure their survival. As time passes, the usual social order is reversed with Crichton now in charge, but what will happen when a ship is finally sighted passing close to the island?
