James Stewart and Shelley Winters star in this Western directed by Anthony Mann which follows the journey of a Winchester 1873 rifle as it passes from one ill-fated owner to the next. In Dodge City, Kansas in 1876, Lin McAdam (Stewart) searches for Dutch Henry Brown (Stephen McNally), as he has a score to settle with the man. He wins a prized Winchester rifle in a shooting contest but Dutch later attacks him and steals the rifle. Lin sets off in pursuit, seeking to recover his prize and finally have his revenge, but he is not the only one who covets the weapon... The cast also includes Dan Duryea, Millard Mitchell and Rock Hudson.
