Drama following the journey of personal discovery undertaken by a young English soldier who joins the French Foreign Legion during the Algerian struggle for independence. Simon Murray (Paul Fox) has grown up with certain ideas about life, largely romantic ones. When he is rebuffed in love, Simon decides to pursue another romantic ambition - fighting for something he believes in. In the deserts of North Africa he soon meets a man who appears to be his very opposite, the cynical and world-weary Dupont (Tom Hardy), who fights only for himself. As Simon encounters the ugly realities of war first hand, will he be able to hang onto his ideals or will he follow the lead of his new comrade, Dupont?
