Five-part ITV drama following three families who live in the same house during different decades. The families are all linked by Alice (Millie Archer), a little girl who died mysteriously in the 1960s and has haunted the house ever since. The girl's mother, Ruth Bowen (Jodie Whittaker), living in 1968, is determined to discover the truth behind her daughter's death. Meanwhile, in 1987, Eddie (Dean Andrews) and Helen Maynard (Alex Kingston) and, in 2010, Mark Ashburn (Elliot Cowan) and Nisha Parekh (Shelley Conn) are growing suspicious of their new residency due to a series of unfortunate events.
