An illustrated guide to Deeside in Aberdeenshire. The book consists of plates of tinted lithographed images of notable scenes, most drawn by Andrew Gibb, alongside a written descriptive tour, from Aberdeen to the Wells of Dee, with inset smaller drawings. As described in its preface, the work had a long gestation with input from a number of individuals. Started by Andrew Gibb in around 1850, it was eventually compiled and brought to publication by J. Marley Hay, the fellow lithographer and business partner of the late Gibb. Hay states that while many of the sketches and descriptions are applicable to the date of publication, 1884, the book would also be found to contain an accurate description of the scenery of the Dee between 1850-58. This was before considerable development in the area during the later 19th century.
