Josef von Sternberg directs this classic German drama adapted from Heinrich Mann's novel 'Professor Unrat'. The respectable Professor Rath (Emil Jannings) discovers some postcards of a nightclub singer being passed among his class and he goes to the club in the hope of catching some of his students but instead becomes entranced by the charms of the cabaret singer Lola-Lola (Marlene Dietrich).
