David Jason plays Wilkins Micawber, a character who first appeared in Charles Dickens' 'David Copperfield', in this lavish period comedy. Micawber is a man who lives his life as if he had a store of riches behind him, but who is in fact completely broke. He just thinks that if he keeps his spirits high then something good is bound to come along, and with this simple philosophy he enriches the lives of all those around him.
