The letters transcribed were bequeathed to the Aberdeenshire Archives in 1989 by Miss Eleanor Berry of Kemnay and are at present held in the City Archives. With the letters were several boxes of correspondence and research notes relating to Miss Berry's ancestry together with a brief memoir she had composed of Walter Berry 1754-1833. There are some 200 letters altogether, dating mainly from the period 1810-1820 but with a series up to 1840 among those transcribed. The principal correspondents were : Dr George Barclay 1792-1819, his wife Emma Berry 1798 - 1837, and her father Walter Berry, 1754-1833.
