This book tells the story of Sir Alexander MacRobert and his second wife Rachel. It describes Sir Alexander's journey from his first home in a humble Aberdeen tenement to the highest echelons of the British Raj; thanks to his creation of a giant conglomerate the British India Corporation ; of the Douneside estate on Royal Deeside in Aberdeenshire, where his second wife Rachel pioneered modern cattle-breeding and lobbied for youngsters and ex-servicement to have the opportunity to work in agriculture ; and how in her long widowhood, after the untimely death of her three sons, Rachel became a shining example in the face of adversity, taking on the Nazis in World War II by funding the purchase of five aircraft, one of which was named "MacRobert's reply", and perpetuating the memory of a great family in the important charity that today still bears its name.
