This book tells the story of Aberdeen's earliest club from the founding of the original Aberdeen FC in 1881. It charts some of the key moments during the rapid explosion in the popularity of football in the 1880's and 1890's when teams were established in most neighbourhoods of the city. Of the dozens of clubs formed in this period, Aberdeen and Orion emerged as the best of the bunch in the late-1880's and Torry's Victoria United, formed in 1889, became a significant force in the 1890's. But there were many other clubs who appeared fleetingly during the Victorian era. They included teams bearing such long forgotten names as Caledonian, Britannia, Carlton, Gladstone, Reform, Alpine, Our Boys, Emerald, Playfair, Rosebery, and the exotically named Prairie Flower F.C.
