A great many things : the life of Simon Forsyth
Roberts, Rae2025
Books, Manuscripts
Simon Forsyth's life was remarkable; from his poor early crofter childhood in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, to disappointment on arrival in Auckland, draining a swampy farm in Canterbury and eventually becoming a visionary leader in the dairying industry in Taranaki. This is a New Zealand colonial history seen through the eyes of an early settler. It is also a family history; Simon married a pioneering English women, Margaret Rothery in CAnterbury and they raised nine children. His life was embeeded in community; a boyhood among Scottish rural families, as a young man reliant on farming neighbours in Canterbury and in later life helping with others to develop a South Taranaki town in the 1880s.
