Widower and retired actor John Chapel (Spall) once starred as a detective in a long-running television show but now he lives a quiet life in the countryside. When his neighbour is found dead, Chapel suspects foul play and joins forces with Detective Sergeant Janie Mallowan (Keyworth) to uncover the truth about what happened. In the process, a new crime-solving partnership is formed.
