Dementia is a general term for cognitive conditions that impair at least two important brain functions: memory and cognition. Many recent studies have shown that dementia, in its various forms, is not necessarily a symptom of ageing. However, its occurrence increases with age, often due to factors like poor diet, lack of physical and mental activity, and chronic medical conditions such as high blood pressure, obesity, high cholesterol, and diabetes. In some cases, genetic factors may also play a role. While the human brain adapts throughout life and is exposed to various risk factors, there is a high possibility of preventing memory deterioration and reducing the severity of dementia. This can be achieved by understanding and practising certain important activities in daily life.
