This book was first published in March 1934, recording a journey made by the author through England in 1933. It had a vast influence on public opinion, paving the way amongst other developments, for the Mass Observation movement of the later "Thirties", and ultimately for Mr. Priestley's memorable radio "Postscripts" during the Second World War.
