Mari Okada writes and directs this Japanese anime feature set in the fictional land of Iolph. Maquia (voice of Manaka Iwami) lives in Iolph where people stop aging in their mid-teens and live for hundreds of years. When the Mesarte Army invades Iolph with a plan to capture Iolph's residents to harvest their immortal blood, Maquia manages to escape but is left completely alone with no option but to wander through the dark forest. When she encounters a young orphan boy by the name of Erial (Miyu Irino) she takes him under her wing and the two embark on a journey together.
