Bob Mould remarked on this album, 'I always aim for the perfect balance of bright melodies and dark stories. I've used this juxtaposition for years. This time, I've tuned it to high contrast'. 'Patch the Sky' is a dark album as a result of some 'hard emotional times', during which Mould withdrew from everyday life to find his own truth and write this, his 12th solo effort.
