The five-year period which Graham Sutherland spent working for the British government as an Official War Artist is a little known episode in his long artistic career. The one hundred and fifty wartime drawings illustrated in this book, together with a number of preliminary sketches, represent a selection made by Sutherland himself from a much larger body of work.
