Michael Gambon plays Lyndon B. Johnson in this made-for-TV drama tracing the U.S. government's path from the great hopes of the Kennedy years to the bitterness and failure of their involvement in Vietnam. Beginning his presidency with the dream of transforming the U.S. into a 'Great Society', Johnson's vision soon gets outpaced by his unpopular and unnecessary pursuit of the conflict in South East Asia. As the days pass, and his advisors Clark Clifford (Donald Sutherland) and Robert McNamara (Alec Baldwin) present the arguments for and against continued military action, Johnson faces the decision which could bring about his own downfall.
