Robert Mulligan directs this classic adaptation of the novel by Harper Lee. In Maycomb, Alabama in 1932, six-year-old Scout (Mary Badham) lives with her older brother Jem (Phillip Alford) and their widowed father Atticus Finch (Gregory Peck), a conscientious lawyer with a strong moral compass. While Scout and Jem make up stories about their reclusive neighbour Arthur 'Boo' Radley (Robert Duvall), Atticus prepares to defend Tom Robinson (Brock Peters), a black man accused of assaulting a young white woman. The controversial nature of the trial inflames racial tensions in the town and causes many of the townsfolk to turn to violence.
