Klaus Kinski stars in this historical drama written and directed by Werner Herzog. Spanish conquistador Lope de Aguirre (Kinski) hopes to find El Dorado, the legendary city of gold, and is part of an expedition which travels deep into the Amazon in search of its location. A power struggle within the group leads to Aguirre seizing control and as he descends into madness, the remaining members of the doomed expedition face terror, starvation and death.
